April is Donate Life Month and Wednesday, April 7th is Living Donor Day
April is Donate Life Month and Wednesday, April 7th is Living Donor Day. This year, we are celebrating by honoring our very own Living Donor Transplant program. Living Donation is an amazing way to save and enhance someone’s life through Kidney or Liver transplant. It also allows speeds up the wait time for transplant patients who would otherwise have to wait for a deceased donor. Anyone over 18 can apply to be a Living Donor and take the journey to determine if they can donate. Whether you know someone who is waiting for an organ, or you just want to give the gift of life to a stranger. The UCSF Living Donor team works tirelessly to assist and care for the living donor candidates who choose to come to our program for evaluation. Throughout the pandemic the living donor team continued to support patients through the process and helped 137 patients get transplanted and off the organ waitlist last year. This amazing team is dedicated to their Living Donors and the mission to save lives. Many members of the team have worked in the organ donation and transplantation world for the majority of their careers and have over 200 years of combined donation and transplantation experience.
Today we celebrate all the Living Donors out there and all the heroes who have yet to donate or are thinking of stepping forward. Thank you to this fantastic UCSF Living Donor Team for helping these living donor heroes’ give the gift of life.
